    Dependence on rainfed agriculture in a highly variable climate, renders crop and livestock production vulnerable to impacts of drought in Kenya. Stakeholders in the region have highlighted the need for timely and actionable detailed early warning information on drought and its implication on crop productivity.     The project aimed to ensure better resource allocation decisions for health purposes in Least Developed Countries (LDC) such as Tanzania, by improving data gathering and analysis using Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs). As well, it helped establish the feasibility of employing paperless data collection methods in demographic surveillance systems (DSS). This paper reports on the project activities and outcomes.
